At Bussmann, Doreen traveled to and sourced components and tooling
from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and India. Other
duties at Bussmann included cost reduction projects which resulted
in annual savings of over $1,000,000; working with the Engineers as
project
manager for new products; heading the Cooper Industries plastic resin
team in negotiating annual contracts for all Cooper facilities world-wide;
and supplier development. While with Bussmann, Doreen was certified
to teach and lead Kaizen/Lean Manufacturing and brought this concept
out to the Bussmann suppliers leading them through events. She was
also certified as an ISO auditor using this as a tool for supplier
selection
and development.
Doreen is past president and current treasurer of NAPM – Chicago,
board member of the International Trade Club of Chicago and currently
chairs the board of the monthly economic publication “The Chicago
Report”. Doreen was nominated and confirmed to Chicago’s
Mayor Daley Sister City Committee – China and currently is a
committee member. She is also an active volunteer for Y-ME Illinois
and the Gus
Foundation, which supports children with brain tumors.
Doreen shares her unique perspective and knowledge on manufacturing
and sourcing in Mexico and the Far East in many ways. She speaks at
breakfasts lunches and dinners for various organizations providing pertinent
information and keeping her audiences attention using humor and real
life experiences. Doreen is a popular speaker on the seminar circuit
and travels worldwide to giving half and full day presentations. She
writes monthly for several magazines on international related subjects
including Mexico Now Magazine, Modern Metals Magazine and The Chicago
Purchaser Magazine and is contacted regularly by various publications
for her comments and opinions.
Doreen holds a Bachelors degree in Marketing and makes Chicago her
home when she’s not on the road.
